On this evenings Farm Hour I have a few agriculture related events to share with you, John Bunting, writer for the Milkweed, dairy industry watchdog publication and local expert on the politics of agriculture will be calling in to speak briefly about the USDA 2012 budget and what it means for rural communities. Tara Collins Communications director at the Watershed Agricultural Council will be calling in to give us an update on post Irene work, tara will also be telling farmers how to apply for storm recovery grants from Pure Catskills… I heard about $15,000 was raised at the Raise the Roof Fundraiser in Hamden a couple weeks ago sounds like a big community effort and Pure Catskills has devised a way for this money to go directly to farms effected by Irene… also in the second half of the hour, Frank Albano will be calling in from Albano Farms and Custom harvesting… these guys plant, cultivate and harvest about 3000 acres of corn across 4 counties Delaware, Schoharie, Otsego and Chenango counties. Frank will tell us about how the corn harvest is going thus far and what the outlook for feed and forage prices going into the winter.
