March 14th Farm Hour

Erica Frenay from Cornell Small Farms Program was on the air talking about the NE Beginning Farmer Project she coordinates.    We learned about the new courses offered online and how efforts of many groups across the NorthEast are collaborating to support  Beginning Farmers in the region.  Apparently the USDA is doing everything they can to support 100,000 beginning farmers every year for next 5 years.  Also, we heard a short piece with beginning farmer Dave Turan from Goldenheart Unidiversity Farm in Stamford.

New York is celebrating Maple Weekends March 19th-20th and March 26th-27th from 10am-4pm each day. You can visit to find a sugar shack open to visitors,  And if you’re interested in more than sampling some of that delicious amber syrup, you can partake in one of the many pancake breakfasts being offered.  The New York Maple Producers Association has conveniently posted a list where pancakes will be served: .
